  1. is there actually a way of saving trailers from the apple.com site?

    .mov files ? Yes there is some capture software about.

    Camtasia, can capture screen, but there are others to capture streaming movies.

  3. Yes,

    Most can be saved if you have "Quicktime Pro" rather than the standard Quicktime version.

    Some you wont even be able to save with that even.

    Go into Internet Explorer > Temporary Internet Files and delete all the files. Make sure you have the option in Quicktime enabled where it saves the movie in disk cache, and quicktime should store a copy in the temp internet files location and you can just copy it out.

    You can also use the player itself to save some .mov files. Go to where the .mov is and copy the shortcut, i.e. the icon you click to get the movie to come up on a website. Open up QT Pro and use "Open URL in New Player". After it loads go back and save it as a Self Contained .mov file. A lot of the new ones won't let you save the .mov file this way, but sometimes it does work.

  5. Use Streambox VCR. I use it and it can capture about 90% of all quicktime streams. Read the help files that come with it to learn how to use it. I think a link is available in the tools section.
