  1. I just got a govideo DVD player on sale for $69 from $119 at radio shack. I then found out my TV has no AV jacks or s-video jacks or anything except coax. Because of this I had to plug the DVD into my VCR then plug the VCR into the TV. The problem is with most movies the screen will flash on and off during the movie (the sound never cuts out) what is going on? Do I need a new TV? The strange thing is it does not happen with animated movies.

    P.S.
I know it is not the DVD players fault I tried it on a TV with AV jacks and it worked fine.

  2. Macrovision. Several A/V component manufacturers decided that the only reason you would plug your DVD player into your VCR is because you wanted to record the movie.

So they implemented a "copy-protection" system called Macrovision.

It apparently didn't occur to them that someone might be using their VCR as an RF modulator.

Anyway, when your VCR receives input that has a Macrovision signal embedded in it from your DVD player, it cycles the colors around, inserts bars, a bunch of stuff... all to deter you from recording it.

    You have the choices of:
    1. Finding a hack or patch for your DVD player that will disable its Macrovision output (click on DVD Hacks in the menu at left
    2. Buying a cheap VCR that will ignore Macrovision signals
    3. Buy a "Video Cleaner" device that will remove Macrovision signals, among other things
    4. Buy a TV with direct A/V inputs

    Good luck,

  3. Where can I get a "Video Cleaner" device? What cheap VCR wold you reccomend? Also is ther much difference in quality between a DVD player connected with by AV jacks over s-video?

Finally if I get a new TV would a Apex 24''TV Model: APX AT2402 be any good? It has S-Video jacks as well as AV for $169.99.
