dvd plays VCD, so that means it plays SVCD's, and XVCD's??

ok i got a cheap mintek 2110 player. i read the compatibility list and some say that it plays svcd's and some say it doesn't. then others say that if it cant play SVCDs then burn them as XVCD's.

my question is, why would it be able to play XVCD's but not SVCD?
also, when using nero or vcdeasy, how do u select XVCd for burning?
all i see is vcd and SVCD.

There is'nt a specific selection for xvcd. xvcd just means that it is a non compliant vcd. for example non standard resolution, bitrate or audio frequency. If you choose to create a vcd with nero and you get an error message which says that the file is non compliant, but you ignore the message and burn it anyway, the result is an xvcd.

I suspect that most VCD players will play XVCD's but plenty of (particularly the older ones) don't play SVCD's because SVCD is a newer format. XVCD's in some ways are better than SVCD's because a whole lot more players like XVCD's. You don't select XVCD. You encode a VCD at a higher (non-standard) bitrate in TMPEGnc.
