  1. Hello all.

    I've got a problem. I'm trying to make smaller "compressed" files with
    either/both .zip and .rar files, but I can't seem to figure out how some
    of you guys do it.

    Ok, based on one experience here on this FORUM, I D/L'd a sample clip
    that someone posted here in mpeg1, VCD format. Person was demoing
    a clip or something. I just can't remember the poster, but the poster
    did have TWO files. One, i can remember that the file size was approx
    6mb full, and 2mb compressed -the file said PACKED in the window, but
    could mean nothing. I think they were a .zip or .rar files.
    The two clips were in their one ziped files.

    Anyways, if you are the poster of those two clips, please let me know
    what setting are to use to achieve really small files like this.

    Thank you for your support

    Hi

    Zip files cannot be spanned into multiple files, so you can only use WinZip to make 1 zip file. WinRar will make multiple Rar files.

    What some people do (Depending on if the source files are more than 1) is to make a zip file containing all your programs, then use WinRar to split that file into chunks.

    movie1.avi = 3mb
    movie2.avi = 3mb

    zipfile = movie.zip = 3mb (Normaly about half)

    rarfile1= movie.rar = 1.5mb
    rarfile2= movie.r00= 1.5mb

    Well those sizes are not correct, but it gives an indication of what is going on, the zip file is created so that it holds 2 files, then Winrar is use to split the zip file into chucks.

    Depending on the file to be compressed, sometimes you don't bother with the zip and just use Winrar

    But there again, if you use DivX for the movies, you don't need to use WinZip or Winrar, as very little is achieved, mostly people use WinRar or WinZip if the original file is a ISO (CD image) and want to share it in chucks...

    Got that ?
