  1. Hi

I am capturing my DV from camcorder using dazzle firewire to my pc and then ulead video studio to edit and then finally output (encode) a mpeg file which i burnt as a vcd using nero 5 on a yamaha 20x burner.

The vcd plays on my dvd player but the picture quality deteriorates afetr avout 5 minutes of play back. the initial 5 minutes or so is better then some pixellation starts and this pixellation sort of flashes intermitently about every 10 secs or so in small patches. I have seen commercial vcd's which are much better?

Any ideas help appreciated. I cant afford a DVD burner yet.

Try burning at the slowest speed your burner can go.Media brand is important also check Yamahas' web-site for compatible media or:

Try Verbatim DataLifePlus disc, they are 24x rated. And are like 25.00 for 50. But they are VERY high quality. They do good at low and high speed burning, I have used the same disc at 8x(my old burner) and 24x(my new burner) they never failed.

  4. Thanks for your tips guys.

I think the Ulead encoder for avi to mpeg built into Ulead Video Studio was very poor quality. I tried with TMPGEnc which is a free download from the net and followed the instruction geven elsewhere on this wonderful site and it worked like a song. Quality of the vcd was much better. Now I am upto VHS quality. I will try the other brands of disks though as well.

Next I want to try Panasonic Mpeg encoder but software is too expensive so guess I will have to wait!!!
