Hi - I'm an intermediate school (11-13 year old) teacher in NZ. My class is doing a short production in which we would like to use video to help portray our story. The students have chromebooks so the software would need to be web based. Our goal is to combine existing video, songs, sounds, writing etc. into one short film that will be played throughout the production. Can you please suggest a video editing software that would suit our need and any other advice you would give to amateur film makers undergoing this type of project. Cheers.

  2. Try out WeVideo and YouTube Video editor. That's really all that's out there. I suspect you will find both inadequate. Chromebooks do not have the CPU or GPU grunt to handle meaningful video editing and it's unnecessarily laborious.

Thank you. I'm having a play with WeVideo. The video only needs to be 5 minutes long so maybe it will be adequate?

  4. Or perhaps show them professional way how to do it - nowadays kids probably are capable to accept even more complex software way easier than teachers (no offence).
As i not use such tools on daily basis consider this only as a suggestion but - easy or complex - learning effort is almost same IMHO.
    For really free maybe: https://www.videohelp.com/software/AviUtl
    for something more bloated perhaps:

All of which probably won't run on ChromeOS.

I just read an article which indicated Chromebooks are going to able to run some Android apps now. http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/83409953/google-opens-chromebook-pcs-to-android

Adobe Premiere Clip and the PowerDirector Video Editor App are available from the Google Play store, but I can't say if they could be used with a Chromebook.

[Edit] More information about running Android apps on a Chromebook: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/6088175?hl=en

  7. It might help to shorten the search once you realise that any app or program that requires you to run an .exe file cannot be used with a Chromebook....

    Hi Steve,
I'm a high school technology teacher in Fulton County. We have been using TomTom Bandit Studio and Filmora Video Editor‎ for students' personal video stories. I can share the materials and the curriculum with classroom activities, if you still need them.
