  1. Hi
I've edited a video coded with DivX5/mp3 using avi demux to a h264/mp3 video so that my TV can play the movie. Anyways, i only applied changes to the video stream, plain and simply copied the audio from the source file but it is well 30 seconds out of sync when playing it, PC or TV.
I know there is this shift audio function but instead of lipsyncing the movie myself I'd rather reencode it again hopefully fixing the problem as I do so.
    Any tips?
Edit: Furthermore, i tried reencoding the whole thing from the source file all over again, synced the audio with 'shift' and checked in a few different parts of the movie, yet after saving it is out of sync again. I didn't miss any apply function now did I? Grr... Also tried isolating the audio stream from the source and to my surprise, audio in the standalone mp3 file had messed up timings _already_.
    Would really appreciate some help

Post the full details from your source file. Use mediainfoxp.

You could always try reconvert the audio to aac or mp3 again and see if it makes any difference. Instead of using copy mode.

  3. Well, actually, at first I switched it from original 128 kbps cbr mp3 to 192 kbps cbr, for the sake of not losing anything (as if there was any quality to lose :P). All in all, I tried both ways, I guess I'll try aac as well.

    So here are the details:
    Video
    ID : 0
    Format : MPEG-4 Visual
    Format profile : Advanced Simple@L5
    Format settings, BVOP : 2
    Format settings, QPel : No
Format settings, GMC : No warppoints
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
    Codec ID : DX50
    Codec ID/Hint : DivX 5
    Duration : 1h 41mn
    Bit rate : 829 Kbps
    Width : 576 pixels
    Height : 304 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 1.895
    Frame rate : 23.976 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Compression mode : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.197
    Stream size : 602 MiB (86%)
    Writing library : XviD 1.0.3 (UTC 2004-12-20)

    Audio
    ID : 1
    Format : MPEG Audio
    Codec ID : 55
    Codec ID/Hint : MP3
    Duration : 1h 41mn
    Bit rate : 128 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels
    Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
    Compression mode : Lossy
    Stream size : 92.9 MiB (13%)
    Alignment : Split accross interleaves
Interleave, duration : 42 ms (1.00 video frame)
Interleave, preload duration : 504 ms

Anyway, I tried to reencode two movies. The other one went smoothly so I guess I may post the details as well:
    Video
    ID : 0
    Format : MPEG-4 Visual
    Format profile : Advanced Simple@L5
    Format settings, BVOP : 2
    Format settings, QPel : No
Format settings, GMC : No warppoints
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
    Codec ID : DX50
    Codec ID/Hint : DivX 5
    Duration : 1h 55mn
    Bit rate : 725 Kbps
    Width : 620 pixels
    Height : 258 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 2.40:1
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Compression mode : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.181
    Stream size : 600 MiB (86%)
    Writing library : XviD 1.0.3 (UTC 2004-12-20)

    Audio
    ID : 1
    Format : MPEG Audio
    Format version : Version 1
    Format profile : Layer 3
    Codec ID : 55
    Codec ID/Hint : MP3
    Duration : 1h 55mn
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 112 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels
    Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
    Compression mode : Lossy
    Stream size : 92.8 MiB (13%)
    Alignment : Aligned on interleaves
Interleave, duration : 40 ms (1.00 video frame)
Interleave, preload duration : 504 ms

I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm completely green but the difference I saw was "Aligned on interleaves" and "Split accross interleaves" for the proper and incorrect reencode respectively. That's as far as my hunch gets me, though.
Audio is still out of sync after using AAC as well.

Try another converter like xmedia recode(it can copy the audio stream) or vidcoder(output mkv/mp4).

  6. Well, I forgot to mention I was using AViDemux because it has an option to add black borders on top/bottom of the screen and I was using it so that my TV wouldn't mess up the aspect ratio so there's that..
    Will try those two though.
