    Hi to all!
I hope you guys are doing ok.
I recently bought myself an ASUS BW-12B1ST blu-ray burner and while the first few days it worked wonderfully, now it is ruining every blank bluray disc I try to burn.
When recording reaches 99% the recording fails and the blu-ray is not usable.
I tried Nero 12 and DVD FAB 9 with the same results.
The message is "invalid address for write".
I don't know if the problem is the PC (Windows 7 64-bit), the burner or the discs.
    Can anyone help me please?
I don't know what to do!

    Thanks in advance,
    Javier

This shows a problem with your choice of blank discs in this burner. What type of discs are you using?

Try ImgBurn instead of Nero. And tell us the MID code of the discs. Put a blank disc in the drive, start ImgBurn and click Discovery. The MID code will show up on the right side of the window.

You weren't burning all that fast, at 4x, so that probably wasn't part of the problem.

Thank you for your response, Kerry!

Discs I use are TDK. Should I try HP? I have a spindle of those as well.

    MID: RITEK-BR3-000

This is not good news. Ritek is probably my least favorite for Blu-ray media. The BR3-000 discs probably should not fail completely as you have been experiencing, but Ritek discs do not have a great reputation, either for good burns or longevity. I had a few that I burned back in 2008 (all BR2-000), and all of them lost data and became unreadable in three to four years.

We generally recommend Verbatim brand discs (only the HTL variety, not their LTH discs). Other good ones include Panasonic and FTI/Falcon, which may be hard to find in Argentina.

Load one of the HP discs and see what they say for MID code. And you might try burning one of the Ritek discs in ImgBurn at 2x and see if that helps. Edit: No, scratch that, it looks like they aren't supported at that low speed.

Hi Kerry and thank you again. This is the info on the HP discs.

The only available brands in Argentina are TDK, LSK, Ridata and HP.

Should I try the HP disc?

Yes, the CMC discs should be better. Burn at 4x.

Ridata will be Ritek (its their own brand). And as you've found out, the TDK discs are Ritek too. I haven't heard of the LSK brand, so I cannot advise you on them.

I am trying the Hp as I write. If indeed this one dies while finishing disk should I assume my burner is the problem?

    UPDATE:

    The HP disc burned correctly.
Now I am trying another TDK and tomorrow I'll try another HP and post the results here.
What is weird is how come I managed to burn successfully aroun 15 TDK BRD before they started to fail.
I looked for firmware updates at ASUS but there was nothing.

Good to hear that the HP CMC disc burned correctly. The Ritek discs are just unpredictable in the way they burn, and in how well they retain data over time.

The ASUS BW-12B1ST comes in two varieties. Asus doesn't make their own drives, they just rebadge drives made by other companies. Some are clones of the Lite-on iHBS112-2, but there are others that are clones of the LG BH14NS40. There are a lot of warnings over at MyCE about trying to crossflash the firmware of these drives, so probably best to wait for Asus to release one.

Since your firmware is revision 1.03, it appears to be a Lite-on clone. http://club.myce.com/f87/how-upgrade-your-asus-bw-12b1st-liteon-ihbs112-2-a-331630/

So is it a good thing if it's a Lite ON?

Depends on who you ask. I've never been a Lite-on fan, but they do have a reputation for dealing with mediocre media better than some other makes. But Lite-on always trailed LG and Pioneer in quality of burns in Blu-ray. Most at MyCE would tell you to buy a Pioneer if shopping for a Blu-ray drive, but since you already have this one, I'd say use it and don't worry about it. The very few people who still obsess over optical drives like to split hairs on the differences in quality results in their burns.

Its getting harder to find the Lite-on Blu-ray drives in the US, and they may even be abandoning this type of drive.

One good thing about Lite-on drives, you can test your burn results in a program called OptiDrive Control. You should be able to run the Quality test on all your burned discs. OptiDrive Control is a commercial program, but the trial would work for you for 30 days.

    Thank you!
I can report I burned 3 HP discs and all 3 were successful. Perhaps the TDK discs don't go well with this drive.
Thank you very much for your help and assistance.
    You rock, Kerry!

    All the best from Argentina,
    Javi
