just wanted to know what was the very first ever video codec ever made ?

Probably Digital Video Interactive, or "DVI". See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Video_Interactive. That was in 1987/88. Down the road a few years it mutated into Indeo.

For actual "codec" and not interface it would be the cost211 video codec, early 80's.

Yep, first video codecs was based on DPCM (and various different hybrid combinations of DPCM) - Vector Quantization, DCT or wavelets are much younger...
