i am afraid i am a real beginner here and am not even sure if this is posted in the right place.......,,..
Like an idiot (and worse to the fury of my wife) i just bought Lost Series 1 in NTSC and have got the message " this disc may not play in your region".
my tv is a panasonic TX-42ST50B
realistically is there anything i can do to temporarily convert my dvd player just for or do i have to swallow my pride and buy a new dvd box set ?
any advice greatly appreciated
thanks

Completely and utterly irrelevant to your problem what your TV is.
You didn't provide your real model number of your DVD player, which is relevant. You can search and see if there are any region free hacks and if so, try one and hope it works. Sometimes they don't work any more if the manufacturer changed hardware and/or firmware since the hack was published. If you can't unlock your player to make it region free, you can do either of the following.
1) Buy a new player that you verify can be made region free BEFORE you buy it. You may need to buy online rather than go to stores for this kind of thing.
2) You can rip the DVDs and reburn them as they'll be region free after ripping and more likely than not your DVD player and TV can handle region free NTSC DVDs. We have guides on how to rip and reburn. -

fuller model details dvd S27 EB-S
in the instructions it says Ntsc disc output : "to play a ntsc disc select a colouur rendition standard (ntsc/pal 60) that matches the function of your tv set"....whatever this may mean ? -
Irrelevant. Your problem is REGION CODING on your DVDs, NOT the NTSC format on them. This is just telling you that the player needs to be set to PAL 60 if your TV can't handle NTSC input, which for someone in the UK has about a 0% chance of being true for your TV. I told you what you need to do - either rip and reburn your DVDs or buy a true region free player. Or I guess you could just buy the DVDs for region 2, but that would waste the money you spent already on the DVDs from region 1.

many thanks to all for such prompt replies - great example of fellow members being prepared to help begginers
now gives me the perfect excuse to move into the modern world and get s decent blue ray dvd player though inwill ensure multinregion to avoid similar mishaps.
thanks again guys! -
It's an old (pre 2008?) DVD player. No user hack was available. It needed a specialised remote and/or a chip.
