Can some please tell me what would cause Handbrake to produce a one minute preview file with no video in it and what I need to do to resolve this problem?

    Please give more information.

    Source file?
Does it work to convert the entire file?

Or try latest handbrake beta/nightly build or VidCoder.

The source file was the 1950 movie named Dallas. I tried 4 times to create a preview for the movie and each time it created a 60 second blank video file. Given my luck with the previews, I decided there was no use wasting several hours only to create a 94 minute blank file. I use Handbrake daily, but I have never had a problem like this with it. It seems to me that it isn't accessing the correct codec to encode the file or something along that line.

OK, then, we need to know what's inside the file, where did it come from? DVD, Blu Ray or 'other'? MediaInfo it or look at it's statistics in VLC. What extension does it have. Is it HD or SD. We need more to go on.

VOB files are not meant to be treated as individual video files. They are part of a DVD structure. To load DVD files into Handbrake, choose Open Folder and select the VIDEO_TS folder. It will then load all the titles on the DVD and allow you to choose which title you want to convert.

I see an audio and 3 text streams there, but no video at all. If you're re-encoding THAT then everything is working as it should.

Thanks ronmaz! Everything worked fine selecting the folder instead of a file in it.
