I'm using footage from my university's tv broadcast for b-roll. I copied the MOV files to my desktop to do some editing, but when I open the files in an editing program, the video doesn't sho up, only the audio channels. I can watch the video fine from my pc, but I just can't edit them. Any thoughts why? Here is MediaInfo on one of the files:

It could be worthwhile trying to convert the file to something else like a standard DVD quality MPEG-2 video or an SD H.264/AAC MP4 video to just rule out any problems with the editor's ability to edit the MOV file. Also, be sure to use lower bitrates for testing. I know that if scratch disks are not set up properly (in at least one editor program I use) it will prevent you from editing files properly at high bitrates.

Yes, those are not standard DVD-Video-compliant MP@ML MPEG2 files, those are XDCam HD422 format (HP@HL). Quicktime does NOT have a decoder (nor encoder) that can handle that. You must look to 3rd party codec plugins that can (e.g. Flip4Mac, Telestream, etc). This can often be $$$. However, it looks like Sony may provide a plugin on their XDCam manufacturer site, possibly at no cost (didn't check that far).
Cannot give you further info without knowing which workflow scenario(s) you are using. (Incl. Mac vs. PC, editor software, version#, OS version, etc).
