    185tb of storage on a single tape!!! i wonder what kind of seek speeds we can expect.

    The seek speeds would be very slow,the same as regular tape drives with good speed tranfers but it will take a long time to transfer data back even with 500MBps transfer speeds.

    It's not meant to be super-speedy. No tape backup is. But for what they do, they're great. I don't know how long it would take to commercialize this (and I'm sure in the meantime there will still be growth of HDDs & Opticals), but it would certainly be very welcome. The idea of being able again to back up EVERYTHING you own to 1 portable medium - without having to swap tapes, discs, drives - makes many people's jobs easier.
