  1. I am trying to use a srt file supplied to me however I'm getting an error message on a number of subtitles which have 00:00:000,-41 as a timecode. Has anyone seen this before or know how to go about fixing it?

    Here is an example of the section I'm having an issue with:

    930
    01:20:29,834 --> 01:20:34,000
    Cheers. To the derby of derbies,
    40 minutes before the Big Bang.

    931
    01:20:35,375 --> 01:20:36,667
    Hey, who won?

    932
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Flamengo, State Champions]

    933
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Fla 2 – Flu 3]

    934
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Three-Way Final, 1983 Campeonato Carioca]

    935
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Fluminense, State Champions]

    936
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Three-Way Final, 1984 Campeonato Carioca]

    937
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Fluminense, Two-Time Champions]

    938
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Three-Way Final, 1985 Campeonato Carioca]

    939
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Fluminense were treble champions that year.]

    940
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Opening round of the 1986 Campeonato Carioca]

    941
    00:39:58,375 --> 00:40:03,667
    This might be Flamengo’s fourth,
    at the 34-minute mark of the second half.

    942
    00:40:36,041 --> 00:40:43,208
    Fluminense’s goalkeeper went and said
    he’d never conceded a goal to me.

    943
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [18th round of the 1989 Campeonato Brasileiro]

    944
    00:41:31,166 --> 00:41:38,792
    And the fans are going wild, because this is a
    chance for Zico to score his goal in this Fla-Flu.

    945
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [1991 Campeonato Carioca Final]

    946
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Flamengo, State Champions]

    947
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [1995 Campeonato Carioca Final]

    948
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [The suffering is over. Fluminense, 1995 champion,
    on the 100th anniversary of Flamengo’s founding.

    A celebration postponed during the
    nine years since Fluminense’s last title.]

    949
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Fluminense, State Champions]

    950
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Centennial Fla-Flu (1912-2012)]

    951
    00:00:00,-41 --> 00:00:00,-41
    [Dedicated to Assis and Zico]

  3. Yes, I'm fine to fix them but what I'm trying to work out is how to find where those titles were actually meant to be. Is the 00:00:00,-41 actually an indication of something (setting etc) or is it just an error? This is an official srt doc from the producers so I wouldn't have expected it to be screwed up.

    I believe that's one of the tricks used to 'disable' a subtitle without actually deleting it (moving it out-of-bounds of the video's timeframe). For whatever reason, whoever created/edited the subtitles didn't think those lines were absolutely necessary.

    I'd leave it alone unless you really, really want those lines to appear. There's no way of knowing exactly where the lines were originally intended to be, time-wise, and as this is a SRT format, you may end up with a bit of a jam as the lines try to appear at the same time as others.

    That also means, though, that you can 'fix' the subtitle file by generally just deleting the relevant lines without much hassle. Save a backup copy first, however.

    Better to get another subtitle cause that's gonna take a lot of work to find where those stray lines go cause they are all out of order,basically you will have to watch the whole show and when you to a part that should have a speech you need to paste it in with the correct time code.

    Those lines won't disturb any other since they are out of a correct time code.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

    Do those lines with the weird time codes even have anything to do with the movie? They are all in reference to Brazilian football (we say "soccer" in the USA - don't know which one Kiwis say).

    This is for a theatre screening so I think I'm going to have to talk the the producer about having them appear vs time spent. Here's hoping another (correct) version exists. Thanks ^^

    The film is a documentary about Brazilian football so they're definitely relevant
