How do you like this new version of Firefox Australis? If you want to keep your FF 28 format or something similar, you can try "Classic Theme Restorer" or try this:

I like the above better than "Classic Theme Restorer." You will need to update to the latest "Download Helper" and use an addon: Tabs on Bottom," if you so prefer. Google to find other updates to see if they are available. Use Mozbackup to save your profile, just in case.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Does it have the option for a separate download window to pop up or is it disabled as in the regular firefox?

It works like the old Firefox. As I said, "you will need to download the 4.9.22 version of "Download Helper." Gve it a try. You have nothing to lose if you backup with MozBackup.

I'll stick with firefox esr if download helper is required.

I rather have the download window pop up by default,i really hate having the download window integrated in the history panel. In the regular firefox 26+ the separate download window is disabled.

Well it is not "disabled" as that makes it sound like it is not there or available at all.
I am using FF v28 and I can open the separate download window anytime I want it. -

I switched a month ago when I saw what Australis is bringing. Using Pale Moon and have been very pleased with it since I can customize it in the way I want without many add-ons.
If you want the old style download window to pop-up automatically, you can enable this in Pale Moon in Tools-->Status bar options. -
I got that feature in firefox 24 esr.

I don't need a Cloud sync feature. And I also don't want a clean look. I like my old clunky firefox.
