Need help with MP4 Format Conversion

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me with an issue I am having. Seems my player in my car (Which is Window CE based) only likes certain MP4 movies. Looking at data for files in "MediaInfo", I think I narrowed down the issue. My player runs files like this...

Can someone please tell me what conversion in Audials 11 (or in any other converter) will output to the type my player will play. Seems it does not like AVC format but does like MPEG-4 Visual simple@L1.

Assuming what I mentioned above is the reason some MP4 work and others do not, can someone help me? I have tried quite a few times to convert the bad files (AVC) to the MPEG-4 Visual Simple@L1, but have not been successful.

Looks like it wants your mp4 encoded with h263 codec. Just a guess on my part.

The car player doesn't support MPEG-4 AVC which the second file is plus it resolution is too high(852x480),your will only play xvid at 720x480 with no special format settings.

What type of device is your windows ce?

Yes, I think that is the problem...the AVC format as the other works just fine. I am trying to find a way to convert the AVC to the other but not having any success.

Also, I do have another movie that is the same as the one that works and it's resolution is 852x480 and it works fine. here is what that one reports...

There's lots of software which will convert h264 (AVC) video using a h263 encoder such as Xvid. If the converted video is only for playing in the car and you're not overly concerned about having lots of control over encoder settings etc, programs such as Video to Video Converter are pretty easy to use. It'll let you convert just the video while copying the audio, but you might also need to experiment with the type of audio your player supports.

The player no doubt plays AVI files. You could open an MP4 with Video To Video Converter, select AVI from the conversion presets and you should be good to go. If you select MP4 you may need to change the default video and audio encoders. It's easy to do.

By default, the AVI preset uses Xvid for the video encoding and converts the audio to MP3. The MP4 preset uses an "mpeg4" encoder for the video and AAC for the audio. You'll probably need to change the audio to something else such as MP3 or AC3. The mpeg4 and Xvid encoders should both give you video your player is happy with.

Xvid is mpeg4-asp (advanced simple). The one your player liked was mpeg4-sp (simple). Might be a passable difference, might not. You should check again with a valid SD rez xvid file and see if the player likes it.

Btw, w/o a plug-in, QuickTime only creates sp, not asp mpeg4s.

Video to Video Converter's "mpeg4" encoder results in Simple@L1. For Xvid it results in Simple@L3. That's what MediaInfo says anyway, for my 704x384 test encodes.

It says divx format. Clear as mud, as usual. Xvid would work fine, as you've found. They're both codecs that will implement the mpeg4 visual format..

Nothing in the list about profiles or levels. There usually isn't. You could experiment by encoding to simple and advanced simple or just encode to simple. On a small screen it probably wouldn't matter.

Thank you all. It appears that the Audials 11 I am using is just not providing the conversion I needed. The Video to Video seems to do what I need it to do. Now I just have to play with the setting to get it perfect for my player.
