  1. What codes and settings for the filters did you use, Sanlyn.

I tried Jagabo's script but its throwing back errors.

I will get the plugins for Jagabo's script and see if it will work.

  2. I can't get Jagabo's script to work.

Script error: there is no function named "QTGMC"

I downloaded the plugin and placed in avisynth plugins folder
and I get another error regarding QTGMC.

QTGMC and McTemporalDenoise are the hardest filters to get set up because they require lots of other filters. Did you download all the required filters and follow the directions on where to put them?

    http://avisynth.nl/index.php/QTGMC#Requirements:

Get the Plugin package with all requirements. Be sure to follow the instruction in the read_me.txt and where_to_put_these.txt files. Fortunately, you only have to do this once.

Members can help you get started with Avisynth. Once you get the right plugins loaded, you're on your way. It can be tricky at first. But as jagabo said, you only need to acquire the plugins one time.

Frankly, jagabo did much more repair in Avisynth than I did with my sample. The video I submitted was only a demo to show what's possible in VirtualDub alone, especially with badly processed anime. Jagabo's repairs will make things look even better.

For the color and levels work I used different settings for each camera shot. That was mainly because the avi you submitted is a heavily edited collection of shots from various parts of the anime rather than a continuous segment. The same VDub filters and settings couldn't be used for the entire video; you will encounter some sections that need different filters or settings. I can make a demo of how one or two shots were corrected to show you how the filters are used. But I'd suggest that you first get an idea of the kind of repairs required in Avisynth.

If you get more Avisynth errors, let us know.

If it's in the Plugins folder it should autoload if you renamed the AVS as an AVSI. As an AVS it'll open with an Import line in the script:

    Import("C:\Path\To\QTGMC.avs")

  6. I went past a few plugins including QTGMC.
Now I'm getting a different error:

    Code:
    AviSynth open failure:

    FFT3DFilter: Can not load FFTW3.DLL!
    (MCTemporalDenoise.v1.4.20.avsi, line 700)
    (C:\users\pc\desktop\1.avs, line 17)

  7. Did you read the instructions in the plugins package? They tell you what to do with FFTW3.dll.

  8. I got it to work but now its telling me

    Code:
Script error: there is no function named "gradfun2db"
I downloaded the plugin but it doesn't include a install note.

  11. I have a few questions.

Why do we need color saturation.
The intro looks desaturated but in fact the
rest of the episode look pretty good to me.

They also use a toned down color selection over in Japan
compared to the states and probably else where.

What are the basics to filtering this video.
Deinterlace, Resize, denoise, color correction, sharpen.

    Is that all.

    I don't a 100% understand the descriptions for Jagabo's script.

    Then don't increase the saturation.

The video couldn't be cleanly inverse telecined (restore to 24 fps film frames) so I decided to just use a smart bob (QTGMC) to convert it to 60p. Dehalo_alpha was used to remove halos caused by the VHS decks sharpening filter. I downscaled with BicubicResize and upscaled with nned3_rpow2 to increase the horizontal sharpness. aWarpSharp2 increases the sharpness and reduces some of the rough edges from time base jitter. Sharpen further increases the sharpness. McTemporalDenoise was used twice while the frame size was reduced (smaller frame = faster processing), once with low noise reduction on the luma, again with high noise reduction of the chroma. The chroma also was also sharpened quite a bit with aWarpSharp2 (VHS has about 350x480 luma resolution, but only ~40x480 chroma resolution)

You can always comment out (or change parameters) some of the lines to see what effect they had on the picture.
