  1. I have scoured the net trying to find how to repair some avi movies I made with a IP camera. I have never had a problem before but for some reason VLC and all other programs do not detect that this is an avi file, apparently due to no header info. Free and expensive programs I have gotten cannot do anything with the files because they do not recognize the files as being videos but I know data are there. Is it possible just to cut and paste the code into some other avi file and be able to view the video or am I simply hosed? Thanks! Please put me out of my misery if this is a lost cause.

  2. Try opening one with VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. If they open it successfully, select Direct Stream Copy from the Video menu and save the AVI as a new file.
You could also try opening one of the AVIs with MKVMergeGUI. If it can open it, it'll save the output as MKV without re-encoding anything. It might also indicate what the problem is.
