How to extract ac3 from vob files to stereo.

Hi,

I am trying to extract AC3 audio from a vob file dso that it ends up as a stereo file.

I usually use Audition for extraction but tried it and the music mix is terrible.

Any advice please?

Demux/extract the ac3 with tsmuxer.

edit: oops....I missed the stereo part. Ignore everything I wrote....or maybe try eac3to.

Thanks, I tried TS and it looks like a great program but noticed your edit.

The thing is that the video is a band and it seems they have the lead guitar on one channel and the acoustic one another with drums and bass somewhere I guess on different channels. The acoustic is louder than the lead when it is played stereo so I need to get the same balance that is on the AC3 5.1 mix into a stereo file.

Audacity should show you all channels, then you can choose or adjust the levels and mix down to stereo, assuming it's 5.1 or multiple channels at present.

I've done this with several concert DVDs, though I don't usually adjust individual channel levels. Then I select all the channels with stereo as the output. In my case, I use MP3 for my car stereo, but you can use other output formats.

The DVD I am working from does not have any files in the Audio directory, it has to be extracted from the Vob files.

I can't see where I can do this in Audacity and not sure how to extract it so that the 5.1 is intact form me to re-balance it.

Try using DGindex. Open the title set you're interested in.
file / save project. It should save a short d2v file (which you can discard), and the audio, extracted.

The audio directory isn't ever used in dvd authoring,it's left over for older dvd players,just load the vob into audacity and then export as ac3 5.1.For 5.1 in audacity click on edit/preferences/import/export/ use custom mix checked before you export the audio file to select as a 6 channel file in the options drop down menu.

You will need to also download and install the ffmpeg for audacity.

I apologize. Johns0 is correct that you need to add ffmpeg for Audacity. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#ffdown

Then you should have all the 5.1 channels shown.



The first two channels are the R and L main channels
The next is the center channel
Next is the Subwoofer channel
The last two are the R and L rear surround channels.

You would first adjust the levels for the channel or channels you want the volume lowered or raised on.

Then I use 'File>Export' and you should have this. You just need two output channels.

Then you can mix them like this:



The R and L channels are put into the new R and L stereo channels.
The center channel is mixed to both R and L stereo.
The Sub channel is mixed to both R and L stereo.
The Rear R channel is mixed to the R stereo.
The Rear L channel is mixed to the L stereo.

Hopefully that's correct and proper. It works for me, anyway.

You should end up with a stereo AC3 mix. I generally do this to a MP3 mix, but it should work the same. Give it a try.
