    Other options to try are:
DVDFab HD Decrypter (free) plus VOB2MPG (free) for mpg
DVDFab HD Decrypter (free) plus Video to Video Converter for mpg or mkv

'The Best' program is a program that works. You always need alternatives.

makemkv both decrypts DVDs and creates an mkv on your hard drive.

DVD Fab HD Decrypter decrypts the DVD and copies the DVD files and folders to your hard drive. The other programs are used to convert the DVD files on the hard drive to mkv or mpg.

Baldrick already told you one good one, in MakeMKV. It will just decrypt and repackage the video, not change the codecs used in the video, nor will it compress anything.

If you need a much smaller file using H264 in an mkv or an mp4 format, rip to the hard drive with MakeMKV, then re-encode using Vidcoder or Handbrake.
