Hello
My digital recorder used the following settings to record a lecture in WAV:
I'm thinking of using LameDropXPd to compress it to MP3, before using ffmpeg to join the MP3 with a JPG into a MP4 pseudo-video.Code:Duration: 02:43:44.55, bitrate: 1411 kb/s Stream #0:0: Audio: pcm_s16le ([1][0][0][0] / 0x0001), 44100 Hz, stereo, s16, 1411 kb/s
Are LameDropXPd's default settings optimal for that type of file, or should I tweak them?
Thank you.

Do you like how it (a short segment) sounds at that setting?
If so, use that setting. If not, use a better setting. (Repeat as needed)
Seriously, while "lecture" is likely a more uniform subset, most recordings vary considerably in their optimal compression-vs.-quality setting, and it is at the core a SUBJECTIVE choice. Best to try it out for yourself.

I'd make it mono at maybe VBR 64. The bitrate or quality setting is up to you, though, and subjective as Scott said.

As most lectures/speaking clips are mono, I concur w/ manono about the BR savings achieved by going the mono route.
