  1. Hi guys,

Is there a place (website) I can find and download video samples (AVI) for free ? (for academic/research purposes)

I am looking for different types of samples varying in different aspects e.g :

    1) complexity (frequency, e.g. high freq - football match with background spectators moving a lot, lowfreq - video of a ball bouncing in a plain background etc.)
    2) various colours,
    3) motion (sort of related to (1) ),
    4) frame-rate (fps)
    5) resolution (e.g. 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 etc..)
    6) different audio rates, no audio at all
    6) Different formats (if possible) ,e.g. MPEG-2 PS/ES streams, MPEG-4, AVI

    many thanks!

  2. Note "AVI" is a container format, and can hold many different types of video & audio compression, accessory streams

The most common samples used in academic research , video codec testing, are collected at xiph, derf's collection . They are not AVI wrapped, but you can manipulate them however your wish (e.g use for testing different compression schemes, different containers)
    http://media.xiph.org/video/derf/

Another large repository of various video format is at mplayerhq.hu . You have may have to dig through subdirectories to find what you want
