Why is it a certain VIDEO_TS that can be played in VLC, can't be burnt to DVD?
I normally use BURN or Roxio Toast to burn without any problems.
Could it be there's something wrong with the structure of the VIDEO_TS?

    Any error message ?

Just burning should work. But they might do some extra dvd-video structure tests.

Toast 10 and 11 don't give any error message. Evertime I drop the VIDEO_TS at the VIDEO_TS area, the VIDEO_TS area disappears and the Copy field pops up. See screenshot.

Is it too big for a single layer DVD?

One of the VOB files is listed as 1.07 GB in size, which is slightly too large. 1.048576 GB (1.05 GB rounded up) is the maximum allowed by the DVD spec.

    1.07g

i think the file structure is NOT dvd compliant

try using DVD shrink on the folder, set to 90% let it reduce the vobs

DVDShrink probably won't open a non-compliant folder.....and I think(by looking at his software choices) he is on a Mac.

    @ hech54:
The VIDEO_TS is 4,63 GB, not too big for a single layer DVD.

    @theewizard:
I'm on a Mac, so I can't install DVD Shrink.

I'm moving to our mac section.

    4.63GB is too big. A DVD fits 4.37 GB(4 700 000 000 bytes).

I don't know any free mac osx dvd shrinker.

Note that Mac OS X 10.6 and later use “base 10” capacity notation, where 4.63 GB is 4,630,000,000 bytes. The burn application Toast (at least upto v11.0.4), however, uses traditional “base 2” capacity notation, where 4.31 GB is 4,630,000,000 bytes. Unfortunate, but that's the situation.

If you have a DVD-RW disc, try burning as Data > DVD-ROM (UDF). If your player doesn't accept the burned disc as valid, then you can erase the -RW disc without wasting a disc.

Everybody, thank you very much for the info.

I noticed once again that if you're on a Mac like me you're handicapped if it comes to creating DVD's or working with MPEG2 in general. Roxio Toast is about the only DVD editor written for the Mac, and it's no good at all.

I should switch from Mac to PC, or install Parallels/Bootcamp or VMware Fusion.

    Herve,
If you know any alternatives to Roxio Toast, please let me know.
In an earlier topic someone suggested I'd try DVD Studio Pro. But this isn't for sale anymore. In 2006 Apple stopped offering DVD Studio Pro as a stand-alone product, it became part of Final Cut Studio. In 2011 it was discontinued with the release of Final Cut Pro X.

Herve, I now understand you emotional reaction. I overlooked your MovieConverter-Studio 2 as a tool to create DVD's. I thought it was only for muxing, demuxing and modifying aspect ratios.
    I'm sorry.

However, I dropped some MPEG2's at MovieConverter-Studio 2. But it doesn't seem to work. All I get is one of these two messages popping up:

"Your selected source is not compliant"
"File is not compatible with the tool MovieConverter-Studio".

I don't understand why my MPEG2's are not compliant or compatible. I can play them in any media player, and I can burn them to DVD using Roxio Toast.

When you use Roxio toast, are you authoring a DVD and creating DVD files/vobs
Or are you simply burning the mpeg2 creating a data disc

Theewizard, I tried authoring a DVD from the VIDEO_TS stated above. I used the VIDEO_TS field from Toast, not the Data Disc field. Normally this works out fine, but not with this VIDEO_TS.

I never had any problems authoring DVD's from MPEG2s using Roxio Toast, but with Herve's MovieConverter-Studio2 this doesn't seem to work. I hope Herve can help me with this. His tool seems to offer more possiblities than Roxio Toast.
