  1. Hi All

    I got a lot on Mini DV clips.

    I have made a copy of these clips as back ups.

    I would now like to convert these clips to a formate such as MP4, so that tablets,PC and mediaboxes(connected to TV) can read this files with easy.

    I don't expect 100% loss less quailty or even to use these file for editing in the future. All I need is it to be friendly with various device and players. So that when I place them on a home network they are easily accessible.

    What is the best format and any particular setting I must keep in mind?
    For example bitrate?

    I am using adobe encoder.

    Thank You

    Regards

    DJ
    thanks so much to everone who helps me

    It depends on the devices involved. Check the file types/specs of all the devices to see what is supported. Pick something they all have in common, and then experiment to see what works. PC's or PC related hardware should have no problems with any format. The limitations will be with the "media playback" devices.

    Which tool(s) used will depend upon the source file type.

  3. Most important is to de-interlace the MiniDV video.

    These are settings I use for DVDx 4.1 transcoder for MP4 (mp4.ini):
    [profile]
    version=1.0
    title=MP4 (MPEG-4/QuickTime)
    description=Adobe MPEG-4 video
    tip=Standard MPEG-4
    format=mp4 / mov

    [format]
    pix_fmt=yuv420p

    [video]
    codec=mpeg4
    size=640x360 / 720x404 / 960x540
    size43=480x360 / 512x384 / 720x540
    bitrate=1500 / 2000 / 2500
    bitrate-range=500 / 5000

    [audio]
    codec=aac
    bitrate=128 / 192 / 256
    bitrate-range=64 / 320
    sampling=44.1 / 44.1 / 48.0
    And for H.264 (h264.ini):
    [profile]
    version=1.0
    title=MP4 (MPEG-4/QuickTime)
    description=Adobe MPEG-4 video
    tip=Standard MPEG-4
    format=mp4 / mov

    [format]
    pix_fmt=yuv420p

    [video]
    codec=mpeg4
    size=640x360 / 720x404 / 960x540
    size43=480x360 / 512x384 / 720x540
    bitrate=1500 / 2000 / 2500
    bitrate-range=500 / 5000

    [audio]
    codec=aac
    bitrate=128 / 192 / 256
    bitrate-range=64 / 320
    sampling=44.1 / 44.1 / 48.0
    DVDx 4.1 converter is free for such usage: http://www.labdv.com/dvdx/download/

    And you can learn transcoding from this tutorial: http://www.labdv.com/dvdx/4.1/docs/recode-dvd-or-bluray-rip.php

    And about MP4 format from this one: http://www.labdv.com/dvdx/4.1/docs/create-mp4-movie-with-subtitles.php

    Sure it will help

  4. give a try to this one, download, unzip, DRAG & DROP your DV file to get progressive mp4 or interlace MP4 or DVD, read that read.txt, you need Avisynth to have installed (just installed you do not need to know anything) and maybe DV codec (there is link included) if you need it
