  1. My son has created a avchd dvd, and he is very happy, please can you tell me if there are any good players out there, he sees that Corel WinDVD is paid subscription.

    I don't know of a suitable free player. Splash is free and is supposed to play AVCHD discs, but it is adware, which means it will also attempt to install things you don't want, like browser toolbar addons, new start homepage, or unwanted software. It may be a source of problems for some people.

    VLC will play AVCHD but as a file only, and you have to manually "drill down" to the STREAM folder and select the 00000.m2ts file. It's much less bother to use my Blu-ray player to play AVCHD DVD disks.

    No. I suspect software developers must pay license fees to add full AVCHD support, so freeware players do not have it.
