Hi,
Today I wanted to re-encode a video and I suddenly saw the size almost double. I still using xvid with Magix video deluxe.
When I opened it with SPlayer I see the Overall bit rate : 2 626 Kbps, for the Video Bit rate : 1 302 Kbps, Stream size : 19.6 MiB (50%).
The original file which is much small is Overall bit rate : 1 518 Kbps, Video Bit rate : 1 331 Kbps, Stream size : 20.0 MiB (88%).
The quality looks the same. I've tried with XVid 1.3.2 and 1.2.2.
Why is the size almost double? How kan I fix this?
Thanks.

Looks to me like you let it convert the audio to WAV audio from whatever it was originally. Make sure the audio is kept the same and not converted.

Your program has done something 'odd'. The original file looks untouched (same bitrate) hence the same visual resolution but the header appears to double its size. Maybe the conversion failed at some point.
What was the original file format ? Then we can suggest some different tool. -
I've tried with Magix Video deluxe 2013 and Magix Video deluxe 15 (that I also used for the original video).
Maybe it's a AVI problem. -
If you do not wish to answer the question then how can we help ?

Well that file looks wrong as well. The stream is 91%. 9% overhead seems to me to be too high.
I assume you still have the original Mpeg2. What exactly are you attempting. 20 mpeg is hardly BIG. -
Note that I've just tried to encode using 600Kbps and 3000Kbps, the result is something that has about 1300Kbps extra of what it should be. So it doesn't double the video stream but adding 1300Kbps somewhere.

I just want to take about 2 minutes of the film (something I filmed with my camcorder) and create a video file from it. XVid is what gives me the best quality for size.

No, I paid more than 100 Euro for Magix Video deluxe prenium and I've done my projects in there.
BTW in the Us it's call Magix Movie Edit Pro and it support HD (even the version 15 did)

Hehe, but manono was wrong in his guess.
However, one can only wonder why use high resolution 1280x720 video combined with crappy 22.05 KHz 48.0 Kbps bitrate audio. The problem is probably related to that (guessing again). Why not keep it at the original 48 KHz and give it a decent bitrate?
Anyway, I'm with DB83 in suggesting the use of a better program. Maybe AutoGK if you really want an XviD AVI with MP3 audio. So what? That proves it's good? Apparently it can't handle videos with funky audio, but many programs also have trouble with unusual audio, creating it and/or reencoding from it.Last edited by manono; 8th Dec 2013 at 17:08.

Can not help you with that program. Other to do your project export out of there in Mpeg2 and use something else to create the Xvid. All I know is that the program is doing something weird or you have placed a setting within it.
Maybe you can upload that '40' gig video as an attachment here. Mediainfo may be fooled but I think the header is wrong. -
Yes there may be something wrong with the software. I've just tried with x264 and had the same problem.

Hi,
Here is the solution I think I'm gonna choose after many different attempts.
Create the video with XVid and maximum quality (Still with Video deluxe prenium).
Convert the video with MediaCoder from xvid/avi to xvid/avi with a lower bitrate and stream copy for the audio. I may loose a bit of quality due to the double encoding but at least I won't have a file twice as big.

It seems odd because for the 22MB file the video bitrate and the audio bitrate add up to roughly the displayed "overall bitrate". Or at least close enough to make sense. Yet for the 40MB file the overall bitrate is doubled while the video and audio bitrates remain the same.
Have you tried simply taking the 40MB AVI and remuxing it to see what might happen? You could open it with a program such as VirtualDub and resave it as a new AVI while using "Direct Stream Copy" as the video encoding method so it's not actually doing any re-encoding. If it works it'd be a lot easier than having to encode the video twice (which is probably the worst possible "fix").
For the x264 encoded version you could probably remux it using MKVMergeGUI. It'll also open and remux the AVI version if you don't mind changing the container to MKV. -
Hi hello_hello,
Excelent idea . I reused MediaCoder and I've used Stream copy not only for the audio but also for the video.
Now the file is 21MB again with good quality.
Anthony
PS: it's also much faster
