We are trying to setup Sonar X2 so as to input midi files and print out sheet music.
Our sound card doesn't have any midi capabilities so it will have to be replaced.
Can someone recommend a pci-e sound card to accomplish the above?

If all you need is a midi connection then try this http://www.roland.com/products/en/UM-1G/ This is what I use on a Win XP box.

I think what we need is a sound card with "midi out" software to work with Sonar X2. Sonar will input midi files and display them in staff form which can then be printed as sheet music. We did this years ago using window 98 and a creative sound card. Things are different now. Thanks for trying.

Creative Labs SB0160 Sound Blaster Audigy EAX HD PCI Sound Card with Midi Port or similar, you should look for a sound card with a wavetable and midi support as the simplest solution. You can always use software based soundfonts. Have a look on http://forum.cakewalk.com/ lots of helpful midi folk there

Thanks for your help.
Our motherboard requires a pci-e card whereas your Audigy appears to be pci only. -
Then do a search for soundcard with wavetable and midi support pci-e. They are not rare! Have a look on the Creative site and eBay.
