I was looking at some examples by searching on google, and most title credit scripts I see are for rolling credits, or credits fading in or fading out etc.,
I was wondering, what if I want a title credit sequence where it appears character by character, as if somebody is typing the credits?
Can you point me to some examples of funky title credits in this way using just
SubTitle, Blankclip and Animate command?
Thank you

Of course there's after effects , but are you looking for avisynth only ?
Another approach would be to use aegisub / ass subs to hardcode fancy fonts and animated text effects . There are many tutorials on various websites and youtube
eg

you can do it with subtitle workshop by using "type effect" and add it into the avs script
or
create your srt sub with subtitle workshop, rename it with same name as your video, enable subtitles in ffdshow, "feed" the video through avisynth, this way you have more control on how your subs/credits will look (colour, position, opacity etc) you can try this options "on the fly" while playing the avs script with MPC-HC for exampleLast edited by ricardouk; 12th Nov 2013 at 20:17.
I love it when a plan comes together! -
I see both aegisub and subtitle workshop are open source software. My main interest is titles and end credits. What do you recommend.
Here is what I will do
Encode a blank or image background video for title
Encode a blank of image background video for end credits
And then while processing my video in AVISYNTH, add these videos
Alternatively, I can have a single script which creates
50 title frame video
50-100 end frame video
And then dissolve all. -
We can't really recommend anything unless you're more specific about what you want
You can overlay (hardcode) subs with avisynth using TextSub() . If you just want a blank background , use BlankClip() ; for an image background use ImageSource() . It doesn't have to be encoded beforehand. You know that already from your other thread
Have you seen any anime fan sub / karaoke work? For a "simple" text/sub editor, you can do pretty fancy things with aegisub.

playlist of a few aegisub karaoke effects

There are hundreds more, just search youtube
Many people provide templates and .ass files in a download link that you might customize for your own purposes. Check out the comments sections on the various videos
While avisynth is a great tool, you'd be hard pressed to do some of those effects in avisynth alone
It's very easy to go "overboard". Personally, I would use something appropriate or related to the content. So for your timelapse you might combine some variation the trails effects with the credits and titlesLast edited by poisondeathray; 13th Nov 2013 at 11:18.

Thanks poison death raw. My time lapse is one star trails sequence, and rest Aurora.
So I was looking at a title where each character comes on as if typed live on screen. I want to keep it simple so not going overboard definitely. I will check out the stuff on youtube.
Thanks once again! -
ricardouk's idea using subtitle workshop is very easy to do, probably even easier than aegisub
I guess I was led astray by your comment about "funky title credits" -
I guess I meant just a little bit funky. Letters appearing as if they are being typed is quite funky to me who is used to the simple fade and scroll effects of windows live movie maker!!
Subtitle workshop is simpler, but aegisub has a lot more tutorials and stuff. Will learn both and create something simple.
