Apparently Windows Media Player is oriented for certain video types

I notice that Windows Media Player deinterlaces DV but not Huffyuv.

That is why other video players exist for Windows. No one player does it all, though some come closer than WMP. Try another player. MPC-HC plays a lot of different video formats and gives you a choice between a few different de-interlacing methods.
