  1. In my simple opinion, it was the PotPlayer using various external filters.

Now came the version with support for Hevc:

    Version History of the PotPlayer

    ----------------------------------------------------------
    [1.5.40766] 2013/10/18
    ----------------------------------------------------------
+ Added support for HEVC(H.265) video format

    - Added the ability to play HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) via FFmpeg
    - Fixed seeking problem when playing AVCHD files
Taking advantage of this new support for Hevc, tested it to the extreme, where one coded sample of 3840x2160 via Hybrid and compared with the player MPC-BE 64Bit (1.2.1.0 - Build 3582 - MSVC 2010 SP1), and obtained the following results with DivX265 :

PotPlayer worked fine, no crashes or Slags.
MPC-BE rotated but began to catch every second of the sample. (Test no external filters).
PS: MPC-BE is a very good player and powerful, only for heavy files like this, WITH RESOLUTIONS UP TO 2560X1600 - limit the player, there is still a few tweaks to run cool.

Test yourself with my sample 3840x2160 (20,1mb): https://shared.com/mqognh9v8x

2 more videos converted samples (1920x1080) for testing:

    https://shared.com/wk98d14024 - HEVC.1920X1080p.AAC.MONOGRAM FLV Mux

    https://shared.com/nrqjngjbup - HEVC.1920x1080p.AAC.DivXMKVMux 4.0.9.9807

The two files above usually rolled in PotPlayer

The MPC-BE only failed to run HEVC.1920X1080p.AAC.MONOGRAM FLV Mux.

I will do more tests with other players and the other branches of Hevc - H265 and post the results here.

Question: Which player would you recommend for playing files HEVC - H265 - DivX265?

Answer: The one that supports the files you have

Reasoning: not all containers and *muxing modes* are equally supported among the available options (sadly).

MPC-BE seems to be limited to H.265-in-MP4 only.

As for the latest PotPlayer --- could you please test it with the sample files
(HEVC in AVI, in MKV, in ASF)

<Portuguese>Não vale usar os filtros que funcionam com o MPC-HC,
    nada de truques </Portuguese>

I can be wrong this time, but I think there won't be a good future for HEVC wrapped in the FLV container

@ Marchand --- many Many MANY thanks for the exhaustive testing

For the curious: now LAV Filters have HEVC support (I've not tested this yet):

flv files encoded by me using Strongene Lentoid HEVC encoder and Monogram flv mux in graph studio, play perfectly OK in latest version of MPC-BE I downloaded. I do have the Lentoid HEVC decoder installed.

  6. ExMplayer http://exmplayer.sourceforge.net/index.html seems to be working well for me. Pretty full featured player/converter with 3d support as well.

  7. DAUM PotPlayer worked best for me. For lower resolution videos (e.g. 720x404 24-30fps), VLC 2.1.5 worked fine. I had problems with another HEVC encoded video at 1920x1080 30fps. It sorta played on VLC, but worked perfectly on PotPlayer. I think it may be due to the hardware decoding support. It seems like PotPlayer supports three different hardware decoding methods (CUDA, DXVA). I just used the defaults and the high res video played perfectly for me.

I've been using VLC for years, but unless they can play 1920x1080 HEVC videos, I will have to switch to PotPlayer as a default.

I also tried MPC-HC. It played the 1920x1080 HEVC video okay, but I noticed a lot of frame drops and stutter. It worked better than VLC 2.1.5, but not as good as DAUM PotPlayer.
