I got this for several minutes when I tried to access this forum, don't recall it ever happening in the past. I noticed that there was an attempt to access google-analytics.com just before this error message appeared...

I got the message a few times too last night but my connection was acting a bit weird (very very slow to no loading on some sites) for a little while around the same time. A bit later I lost touch with my isp so rebooted the modem but couldn't reconnect for over an hour. I blamed it on my isp.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

It's the mysql database that causes the high server load. I haven't found the bug(slow database queries) yet.

Either that or Percona. It depends what kind of queries are being used. That determines what's best here.

For a forum this big, you need to being using those.

In fact, you're still using Apache, but probably should not. I would, at very least, reverse proxy it with nginx if you're not already. Better would be pure nginx, but you'll need to check that all the code is compliant (htaccess, etc), and/or use the nginx versions instead. If nothing else, use Apache 2.4, not 2.2.

If the server is still manual (i.e., no cPanel, etc) then you've got several choices.

I'm really up to date on web tech. If you need help, have question, PM and ask me. I usually either know it, or know where to find it. No problem, Baldrick.

Swapping over to Maria or Percona would still be a smart idea.

    Give this a look: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1236272

The Percona vs MariaDB is mostly a conversation of InnoDB vs MyISAM.
    - Percona for InnoDB
    - MariaDB for MyISAM
    - MySQL for non-large sites, like VH, because it scales poorly.

MariaDB is also good for small VPS, and is just faster in general. The main drawback is neither work with stock cPanel, which is why it doesn't have a larger following.

It's worth looking into, at least.

@ LordSmurf: nginx is good for p0rn sites only

    Actually, not even for them

Just as an example, I've seen the error below TOO MANY TIMES

    502 is a config error.
It's usually a PHP issue, not just nginx, often from php-fpm.
Probably somebody that doesn't know what they're doing, and leave the settings at default.
Bad server cache can also cause it.

I only suggest it because I know Baldrick's not a newbie.
