  1. I am new here and to converting/playing VCDs. I have had a Pioneer DV-333 since X-mas, and want to exploit some of it's cool features. My first project is to convert a 456 meg divx screener of Jurassic Park 3 to VCD. I followed all the instructions on this site and when I hit start, it says it will take 7 hours?? Is this right? Longer to convert than to download? Please tell me something is wrong. Thanks.

  2. No. That's about right

  3. Umm..yeah it takes that long. Actually that's not too bad considering how long it takes some others on the forum to convert a full length movie.

  4. I encoded a 90min DivX of the Escaflowne Movie on my (old) K62-400 it took 18hrs. Since then I bought a Tbird 1.2Ghz, depending on the settings/filters it takes 1.3~2.5x the runtime to encode a VCD (longer for SVCD).

    Yes, it's correct.
DivX is extremely compressed. So TMPGenc must first uncompress all (to nearly an uncompressed movie) before it can re-compress to AVI.

Do as I encode movies : I hit start when I go to bed, even when I leave for work in the morning it's still occupied, but it will be done when I got back from work (this is 2 or 3 pieces of the movie, using highest quality with 2-step VBR). I've got a 1.2Ghz Atlon.

  6. Ok, thanks everyone. Now I know the variables.. Guess I will be picky about what I decide to encode.
