Trying to work on this video for a friend and I'm not sure exactly what all is wrong with it. I'm just looking for the problems and what may have caused them and, if possible anything that can be done for it. This is from a raw files that was shot using a British camcorder that records to a data chip and playing on computer:

  2. The video is interlaced. You need to use interlace aware filtering. Or deinterlace before using non-interlace aware filters. If the video was screwed up before you got it there's nothing you can do. It would be best if you posted a short, non-rencoded sample.

Thanks Jagabo. Is Yadif still considered okay to deinterlace or would you use something better?

  4. Yadif is ok. QTGMC() is usually the best but it's much slower.

The owner posted the original to YouTube and that seems to have fixed the interlace problem but of course the colors are a little surreal, do to low light. Not sure what YouTube does but the version there is Progressive now and I don't see any jutter?

Thanks for your always good advise and help.

  6. I think Youtube does a blend deinterlace. That will look like double exposures when there is significant motion. Deinterlacing with Yadif before uploading to Youtube may give better results.

Yes, I see what you are saying There is considerable double exposure or at least blurring during movement:

    As compared to no motion:
