I am trying to connect my HP 200 windows 8 laptop to my Insignia HDTV with an hdmi cable, when I do so it looks like the tv recognizes it nut there is no picture on the tv, only a black screen, I have tried changing the display options by pressing f4 and choosing the different output settings that would display to the tv but nothing seems to work. Can anyone give me any further direction on how to get this to work correctly, I have also tried two different cables with the same result and I know for a fact the cables are good. Thank you in advance for your help!

You will not see a picture unless the "source" for the TV is set to a connection that is receiving a signal. Use the TV remote control to cycle through the various inputs to find the HDMI connection you are using with the laptop.
You also have to go the your control panel/display and select change display settings and choose what display you want to view and how such as extended landscape, both videos at the same time etc...I think, therefore i am a hamster.
First time turn on your TV, first then turn on your computer.
HDMI connections can be a PITA. Thank Hollywood for that. Unless both units at each end of the cable agree to 'talk' to each other, no signal.
I would do what the others mentioned, and also read the manuals for both the PC and the TV. The TV should tell you which input is being used. Most have two HDMI inputs, sometimes more. They are labeled. I've set up an Insignia TV for HDMI, very easy. If you have temporary access to a HDMI output video player, you can plug that in to verify that the HDMI input is working.
I suspect the problem is with your laptop video settings.
