With software tools that do the same thing, is there a reason to own the hardware version when doing captures?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Being able to calibrate to a reference without the conversion chain elements getting it the way.
Also, knowing that, in the "real", analog world (yes it still exists) things will still turn out ok after all your manipulations.
IOW, is "BLUE" still blue from end-to-end?!
