  1. I have a blu-ray/dvd player that will only play videos with certain codecs...primarily xvid. I have a large video library of avi videos that i am converting /recoding to either mkv or avi but with the xvid codec..i have tried many commercial and free video conversion programs (Aimersoft video converter, E.M. Total Video Converter, FreeMake video converter, handbrake, etc. )
No matter which i use the end result of the converted video has an odd "slow motion" effect or something (hard to describe)...what i mean by that is, for example, that in cases where there would be a scene with some fast motion, that motion is somewhat slowed down in the converted video..no matter what conversion program i try, i get that result..i've tride manually adjusting framerate, and other manual settings...with no luck.
When i use a manual override instead of presets, i use xvid as the codec,, 23.97 as the framerate, and because i'm trying to reduce the quality slightly (so as to reduce the file size to around 700mb or so) i use a video bit rate of 1200kbps..and am always converting the audio to mp3.

anyone have any idea why i keep getting that slow motion effect in the converted videos? I use mediatab and the before and after framerate is the same.

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

Perhaps you can attach a short clip showing the problem.

Other members here might possibly have your same player.

Do you always use 23.97 as the framerate? Or do you use the same framerate as your AVI videos?

Perhaps posting mediainfo outputs of a video file that plays fine and one that causes problem might help to spot the problem.

  6. Maybe Xvid4PSP? AviRecomp? VirtualDub? But yes, post more info about the original and new files. Short samples would be even better.

  7. The player doesn't matter, i have both a sony Blu-ray player (BDP-BX59) and a samsung and i primarily use VLC media player on my computer...no matter what player (sony or samsung blu-ray or pc with VLC or windowxs media media player) the converted video looks choppy or lagging in the video..and sometimes the audio is out of sync as well..on the framerate, i have used the option to keep the original framerate and have also just looked at the original framerate in the original movie file and manually set it to that same framerate when converting..it doesn't seem to matter.
I convert these videos from my dvd/bluray collection so i can have them on a large hard drive i have hooked up to the bluray player for vidoe streaming...(easier than messing with a bunch of disks...)..the original unconverted mkv file worked on my old player fine but the new player doesn't support the codec - so i converted to avi/xvid.

Here is the output of the mediatab analysis of the original move before converting..it was an mkv format before, and i was converting to avi with xvid codec..
as you can see from the sample the motion looks slow or choppy, the motion is not smooth as in the original.

Don't know how you manged to do this, but here's a good place to start fixing.

  9. the frame rate of the input (F:\convert\movie1.mkv) is 23.976 fps the frame rate of the video stream of the output (F:\convert\movie_converttry1.avi) is 23 fps:

Framerate : 23.976 fps <- this is the frame rate written in the container header
FrameRate_Original/String : 23.000 fps <- this is the frame rate the video stream actually has
-> you are definitely doing something wrong during the conversion

    Cu Selur

Ps.: smrpix was faster,.. + only way to fix this is to reencode the source with proper settings

Some samsung players are restrictive in playable resolution

    Width : 768 pixels
    Height : 576

    W = 720 to match 576h

why are you changing the frame rate

you can reduce file size and quality just by changing the bit rate

that is your problem 'messing with the frame rate'

it appears that the conversion process is simply dropping one frame worth of data change , which creates the choppy effect when jumping over the missing frame to the next frame
removing frames is harder to do than adding frames, which interpolates data and adds extra fields/frames
removing only 1 frame is difficult, easier and smoother to cut frame rate in half
leave the frame rate alone just reduce video to bit rate if you want a smaller file

Is very necessary convert movies?? Because you can install a SERVIIO on your PC and play all files (virtually, of course).
