  1. Hello there,

I feel like I have tried everything to get his file to play, but I am having no luck.

I downloaded a .FLV file, but VLC media player is really struggling with it, and is giving me this error message:

    "No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

I understand "undf" means unidentified, and therefore VLC does not know what to make of it. I downloaded the GSpot Codec Information Appliance program in the hopes I could discover what codec was missing, but all it said was this: "Render OK. The following combination of filters was used: (src)-->>--(A)-->[ffdshow video decoder]>--(B)-->[video renderer]. Not giving me any info about a lack of codecs.

When I try to play it in WMP, it flashes an image for a moment, and then stops dead.

I tried downloading that ffdshow video decoder program, but it is a bit beyond my depth and knowledge to figure some of that out. Apparently with that I am supposed to be able to play it with WMP, but aside from that flash, I am getting nothing,

Please help! I am definitely stuck.

If it helps, here is all the info about the video file (from the website I downloaded it from)

get the free mediainfo app, it's much more up to date than gspot. i'd try mpc-hc as a player, but that audio codec is what is probably wrong. you could try re-encoding with something like avidemux or mediacoder to mp4(avc)/aac.

  3. Hey there aedipuss! Thank you very much for your response.

I realized I already had mpc-hc installed. I had no luck with that either, it would just stay "stopped" before any video was shown or audio heard.

I downloaded the mediainfo program, and here is what it said:

    General
    Complete name : C:\Users\Luke\Downloads\record_754.flv
    Format : Flash Video
    File size : 279 MiB
    Duration : 175ms
Overall bit rate : 13.4 Gbps
    Tagging application : RichFlv

    Video
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : Main@L3.1
    Format settings, CABAC : No
Format settings, ReFrames : 1 frame
    Codec ID : 7
    Duration : 175ms
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 819 Kbps
    Width : 632 pixels
    Height : 474 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 4:3
    Frame rate mode : Constant
    Frame rate : 40.000 fps
Original frame rate : 10.000 fps
    Standard : NTSC
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.068
    Stream size : 17.5 KiB (0%)

    Audio

It does appear something is weird with the audio - as it is just left blank. Do you figure that is incorrect encoding?

When I click on the "Go to the website of a player for this file" it takes me to the Adobe Flash website. Below that it says "First video stream - 819 kbps, 632*474 (4:3), at 40,000 fps, AVC (NTSC) (Main@L3.1)(1 Ref Frames).

Below that it says "Go to the website of this codec" and takes me to http://www.videolan.org/developers/x264.html.

It suggests downloading this x264 application for encoding into H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format - but (and this may be a silly question, forgive me) the file is already encoded this way, correct?

    Thanks again for your help!

Another potentially silly question, but if the audio is encoded incorrectly, but the video is all right, shouldn't I see that? It doesn't want to play at all.

    Thanks again for your help!

see if either avidemux or mediacoder will accept that video as input. if so you might be able to re-encode it to a usable format.
