  1. Hi everyone.

I have this MPEG-2 video which has distorted aspect ratio when played.

I tried searching around but this problem doesn't seem that common. All I got was people having problems with 4:3 and 16:9 and etc.

The distorted aspect ratio... I don't even know what it is.

The first image below shows the aspect ratio when played.

The second image is what it should be. It was achieved by manually selecting the 4:3 aspect ratio in VLC media player.

  2. What's the current resolution and DAR? If you don't know, open it in MediaInfo and find out. If playing it as 4:3 fixes it, you can demux it, set a DAR of 4:3 in ReStream, then then remux it.

  3. According to MediaInfo, the resolution is 720 x 576 and the aspect ratio is 21.333.

  4. OK, here's one way to fix it (I think):
    1. Demux it. Open it in DGIndex and File->Save Project and Demux Video. That will give you an M2V, the AC3 (or whatever audio it is) and a D2V project file you can delete.
    2. Open the M2V in ReStream and in the top center change the aspect to 4:3. Save out a new M2V.
    3. Remux with ImagoMPEG-Muxer.

    I successfully demuxed it.

However when I opened the M2V in ReStream the aspect ratio was already specified as 4:3, even though it was still distorted.

I clicked "Write!", the result was still distorted.

Look for a Sequence Display Extension. Set it to 720.

OK then, sorry. Try jagabo's suggestion.

I followed your suggestion. But there seem to be a little problem.

Demuxed video does not play in VLC or Windows Media Player.

After I muxed the video and audio, it plays in WMP, but still VLC doesn't work.

Your other suggestions were still useful. Thanks though!

  9. I managed to solve it.

    1. Demux it with DGIndex.
    2. Open M2V in ReStream and remove the Sequence Display Extension.
    3. Remux with ImagoMPEG-Muxer.

You guys are the best. Thank you!
