  1. how can i get VLC player to play avi movies it plays the audio but no picture

    Install MediaInfo and use it to open a file that won't play. Post the results here so we can take a look.

    VLC can handle AVI fine, so this could mean one of the following.
    1) Your file is corrupted.
    2) Your file was deliberately made in a way so that it won't play back. Hollywood has been known to seed torrent sites with files that can't play correctly.
    3) The person who made the AVI file is incompetent and they did something when making it that is causing it to not play.

  5. Seems like 'xtor' video codec is not supported by libav, which is the reason why VLC can't handle the file.
    From what I gathered googling around it seems like DXtory comes with DirectShow Decoder filters, so playback with DirectShow based decoders should be possible.

    whats this libay mean what do you download or do with it
    libav is basically the video backend of VLC. If libav can't handle the content, neither can VLC.

    hi there, thank you for my registration!

    I need help with these 2 files that don't even show much info in "MediaInfo" ...

    When I open them with VLC or any other program, nothing happens!

    Any ideas? Here is the info it did spew out:

    Complete name : F:\Transworld Motocross - Crush.avi
    File size : 618 MiB

    and

    Complete name :DELETED AS WAREZ

  7. MediaInfo normally shows the header information of media files, if the headers are missing it only shows the size, like in you case.-> Probably fake/dummy files,...
