I am familiarizing myself with dvdauthorGUI. It's going well, but I have run into a stumbling block over chapter creation. I did read the warning that pops up when opening dvdauthorGUI's visual editor, about using the same method that Windows Media Player does to report time may result in the visual editor not being accurate. (And, indeed, on a test disc I found a discrepancy in the starting points of the chapters, anywhere from a few seconds and 45 seconds over the course of the two hours of video.)
From what I've read I understand this to be an mpeg-2 directshow filter problem, so I downloaded the gpl mpeg2 filter found in the support files. At this stage I'm not clear what I am supposed to do next;I still get the same warning about WMP reporting time when I attempt to add chapters - or does that caution appear whether the gpl filter is present or not? Or is my computer defaulting to the WMP, and treating the gpl mpeg2 filter as "secondary"? Basically I just need someone to walk me through what steps I need to take after having downloaded the gpl filter to ensure I'll get a more accurate time reading/more accurate chapter placement.

That warning will always appear, while the directshow filter is being used. Alternatively, I personally recommend installing avisynth, and then (under tools) enable the "alternate preview decoder". You will find this to be much more accurate, and will not nag you with that message again.
