    2) Buy something other than Sony or Samsung

    Sorry but it seems that nothing that Sony or Samsung currently sells in North America can be made region free. Well, we did have ONE unconfirmed report of exactly ONE Samsung model that supposedly could be made region free.

    About 8 years ago there was a hack for a US Samsung DVD player using firmware from England that unlocked
    Divx playback and region free. An extremely rare occurrence, and Samsung were up in arms about it.

    In my mind, I wonder why the UK, with Samsungs blessing, got to enjoy DivX playback while the equivalent US
    model had it locked up.
