I believe I have a very unique problem. Recently bought a Sony KDL HX750 which doesn't support sub-titles in mp4 format.
Watching a 3D Movie makes it even more complicated. For watching a 3D Movie I convert the subtitles using SRT2ASS....and connect my laptop via HDMI to the TV.
However 10-15 minutes into the movie the subtitles start getting blurred & then suddenly disappear.......happened 3-4 times now.
Movie Format : mp4
Subtitle Format : SRT to ASS back to SRT
Using VLC Player....tried KM Player but the movie didn't even display on the TV.
I don't want to go through the pain of hard-coding them. I'm just confused as to why they disappear!

I am puzzled as to why you would convert from SRT to ASS to SRT. Could you not just use the original SRT file?
Did you do any conversion or editing on a Linux or Mac PC? Those can introduce different end of line characters into files and Windows may have problems with that. Also, I am assuming that your laptop runs Windows, so please let us know if that is not the case.
I'm talking about a 3D HSBS file. The subtitles need to be converted in such a way that they are displayed on both halves of the screen. Otherwise they aren't displayed properly.
I did convert them back into .srt to stream via PS3 Media Server(it recognizes .srt/.sub) but the video stuttered too much. Therefore, using a HDMI cable now. However I'll just use the .ass file now and get back with the results.
No conversion on Linux or Mac. Yes I'm using Windows.
