Since the beginning of January 2013, I have not been able to use FairUse Wizard without it crashing on me with the message "FU.exe has stopped working". This happens normally when it is about to combine the video and audio. I have the exact same problem on both my desktop and laptop. Up until this problem, I have had NO problems with it at all.
I have heaps of space on my drives as I reformatted my HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate with only AnyDVD and FairUse Wizard on it to try to solve the problem but that wasn't it. I have an i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and approximately 1.5 TB on my operating system drive and a similar amount on my data drive. Both drives have been checked and defragmented.
My laptop also has 16GB of RAM and an i7 processor. It doesn't have quite as much drive space, but still plenty and checked and defragged. I am absolutely frustrated and perplexed as to what has caused this. Can anyone help me please?

Have you installed any other video software or codecs pack on your computer?
Maybe try an older version of fairuze wizard, https://www.videohelp.com/tools/FairUse-Wizard/old-versions#download . Only the light editions. -
I reformatted my HDD and ONLY installed windows, anydvd and fairuse wizard. It didn't work. I have tried all the versions I own from 2.8 - ie 2.8, 2.9, 2.11, 3D, 3DR2 - none work on either computer. I am at my wit's end trying to solve this - my brain is buzzing! I don't really want to install the light version as it only allows you to create a file up to 700MB in size and I often make a file larger than that. I can say that I have been using this program for about 5 years now and all of a sudden both computers have the same problem - I can't understand it at all.

Only very rarely does it complete. Mostly it hangs - with either DVD's or ISO's. I have always been able to rip from the driver as I have an i7 with 16GB of ram, but it hangs even from ISOs. In the past, I have been able to do other things while ripping, now I have closed down everything I can and it still hangs. My thoughts are that it has been caused by a windows update of some sort. I just wanted to know if anyone else was having the same problem so that I could narrow it down a bit.

check the dates on when it worked and when it quit
then try undoing any windows updates that installed during that time period
its possible, the problem is SPECIFIC to certain HW combinations -
I have just updated another computer with a new motherboard and cpu. I haven't installed anydvd yet - just the bare essentials. Installed FairUse Wizard 3D R2, copied ISO's to Desktop, set FairUse Wizard to save file to a different drive, nothing else running (other than antivirus) and it HAPPENED AGAIN!!! It gets to the point where it is ready to save the file and it hangs.

Have you tried (wild guess) running FairUse as administrator? I think you had to do that with Vista.
A windows update may have altered rights issues.
Also try disconnecting from the internet and disabling your antivirus (to see if by some fluke it conflicts with FairUse). Some anit-virus updates have interfered with some of my legitimate programs in the past. -
I have done that and it didn't work. I thought I had solved it when I found a program which told me the directshow codec for windows media player was corrupt. I don't know how to fix that but I downloaded and installed the AC3 ACM Codec and lo and behold it seemed to work - yesterday. I did 4 DVDs to avi and they all worked. Today, and the computer was not turned off overnight, it doesn't work. This time however, when it switches to the video encoding, the time shown for completion just gets bigger and bigger with nothing happening. This program does such a good job of encoding and I have been using it for years. Now, all of a sudden, I am having heaps of problems with it. It must be a Windows 7 update that is causing the problem. Has anybody had any problems with directshow?
