Hardcode or burn .SMI subtitles?

My grandmother is old and Korean but she wants American movies with Korean subtitles to "learn" English better. Because she's old she doesn't know how to use VLC and all of that so I was wondering if there was a way to hardcore subtitles onto a movie (sounds impossible) or to burn/convert a movie with subtitles? I either plan to burn the end result on a disc or just put the file on her computer. Either way, it has to get to a point where she can just play the movie and the Korean subtitles will be there.

I have a Mac, and the subtitles are a .smi file whilst the movie is a .mkv file. Suggestions?

Convert your subtitles to srt(try jubler or google smi to srt) and then hardcode with for example submerge.

You can use textsub for Vdub to hardcode the smi to the video.

Another alternative is you can install vobsub and force it to load all the time, so you can just skip the encoding process. Just make sure the file and subs are named the same. If she's watching it on the MAC, then I don't know.
