    1. No. NOTHING can, and be even remotely convincing. The goofy 2D->3D auto function on new TVs is more likely to be convincing. Why go to the trouble?

    2. True 3DBD is almost always 1.5x+ the size of a 2DBD, so trying to maintain the same kind of size as an equivalent 2D is sure to result in a major loss of quality.

    Bad idea all around.

I've tried DVDFab's 2D -> 3D conversion to SbS or TaB MKV. My LG can do a better job of it on-the-fly. Which isn't to say that's good either, but better. I played around with it a bit when I first got my TV, but gave it up. It's unconvincing and not worth the trouble.

Occasionally, the processor (or software in Fab's case) makes a wrong guess as to positioning the various elements of the picture. Something may be pushed too far forward or back, creating a weird effect. I recall watching the coronation scene from ROTK and the red silk around Aragorn's neck was pushed back, making it seem momentarily as if his head was detached from his body.

Go ahead and play around with it.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
