I've been looking for the movie "Mission to Mars" on Blu-Ray, but it apparently hasn't been released in the US. However I did find that it has been in France at Amazon.fr (http://www.amazon.fr/Mission-to-Mars-Blu-ray/dp/B002CXG7KA).

I'm not interested in playing this Blu-ray in my PC's drive, but to rip it to a normal m2ts file for streaming playback.

The big question is, can Region 2 disk "files" be just be read by a Region 1 (US) drive?

Be sure the movie is not 25fps,some "European" disks are. Your BR player is unlikely to play it even if made region free because it will see the 25fps as "PAL" and won't play it.

Unlikely, but I suppose worth mentioning as it could be 1080i 25ps video.

This review says it's 1080p, so that rules out 25fps video.

HOWEVER, please pay careful attention to the user comments. Both reviews said they could NOT turn off the French subtitles when watching the English language track. If your ripping software removes prohibited user operations (I think BluRay uses a different term, but that's what DVDs called it) then you'll be able to turn them off.

I actually thought the film was good so I'm intrigued by this. If you get it and are able to turn off the subs after ripping, post back to let us know.
