  1. I have a mpeg 2 file that I would like to trim without having to re-encode.

It's a video capture from a tv tuner. I would like to cut off a few minutes from the beginning and at the very end.

I tried avidemux, but it crashes when I try to save; it says the key frames are corrupted for some reason.

Here's the codec information of the file:

Get the free trial of VideoReDo Plus. It should be able to trim where you want with no issues (though it might re-encode only around the cuts themselves, rather than re-encoding the entire thing).

Mpg2Cut2 is free, does not reencode, but only cuts on key frames.

MPEGVCR and VideoReDo can do this, but VideoReDo's trial version is severely restricted and will likely be useless to the OP unless his file is under 5 minutes long. If I remember correctly, MPEGVCR's trial version is fully functional. I believe that you get what you pay for and the free editors are pretty crappy. If you want to do it right and it's something you'll be doing on a regular basis, buy either MPEGVCR or VideoReDo.
