I have 3 files to merge/append. I tried using mkvmergegui, but because file 3 is in MPEG verses VC-1 for the other two, it complains. I've read about extracting the files with mkvextractgui, does this do 1:1 extracting?

Also, once the files are extracted, I'm not versed enough with mkvmerge to know what to do with the extracts.

Here is the mkvinfo on each file:

    Code:
    video 1:
    |+ Segment tracks
    | + A track
    | + Track number: 1 (track ID for mkvmerge & mkvextract: 0)

    | + Default flag: 0

I doubt you can merge mkvs with different video tracks.

    Reconvert all to same ?

  5. Nick Burns: Make a copy of the files and drop them into Freemake Video Converter. If the dimensions are the same, it might append them all together, but it would recode to something else. Baldrick's method is probably the best. You could convert them all to the exact same specs and then take them to AviDemux and append them together and export them in copy mode without a further recode beyond what you did to get them all to match up. The FVC method might end up screwing up the audio.

  6. Or you could join them in the converter such as MediaCoder or FormatFactory

All very new to this... would the conversion take place on the MKV or on the extract on the third video? I'm hoping I can convert #3 MPEG to VC-1. End result is to have one, albeit large, MKV file.
