  1. http://www.opus-codec.org/downloads/

I don't think it can beat Vorbis or HE-AAC, low bitrate of this codec is really bad as mp3 (I use WMP with K-lite codec to play it).
May be it need specify player ?

So I want to ask you guys what do you think about OPUS codec ?

  2. Like it so far, did some testing encoding with opusenc and decoding through LAV Filters (latest test version of 0.51.3), not sure if it is better than vorbis or he-aac atm. but for me it isn't really worth,..

Opus is intended for voice and "on the fly" audio encoding for websites. It offers no real advantages to home users looking to encode music under it and a huge number of disadvantages given that I'm not aware of even one device that isn't a PC or a phone that can decode it.

    Hi
There is an Opus Streaming Trial at Absolute Radio.
    Here is the link:-
    http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/listen/labs.html#opus

    The 128Kbps streams sound OK.

    The 24Kbps streams sound grotty.
But these will be OK if bandwidth is an issue (or expensive).
Though HE-AACv2 probably still sounds better at such low bitrates.

    Firefox plays them OK.

Also foobar2000 with Windows or Linux+Wine.

And for Linux, VLC from git now has an opus decoder.
And FFmpeg from git has opus support too.

    Code:
    cvlc http://icecast-beta.timlradio.co.uk:8000/ac128.opus
    Code:
    ffplay http://icecast-beta.timlradio.co.uk:8000/ac128.opus
To compare the very low bitrate streams...
    This is 32Kbps HE-AACv2:-
    Code:
    http://aacplus-ac-48.as34763.net:80/
    This is 24Kbps Opus:-
    Code:
    http://icecast-beta.timlradio.co.uk:8000/ac24.opus

  5. Thanks everyone, look like Opus still out of picture for home users for now.
