Hello,
Im using a vulkano to record TV,
I can select different Recording formats and I would like your advise about what do you think is better?
I have doubts about these 2 configuration:
ALL Files are recorded in mp4 files format
-----------------------------------------------------------
CONFIGURATION A
Total Stream BitRate 2,911 Kbps
Video Stream #1
Codec (Human Name) AVC
Codec (FourCC) avc1
Codec Profile Main@L3.1
Frame Width 720 pixels
Frame Height 416 pixels
Frame Rate 29.970 fps
Display Aspect Ratio 16:09
Scan Type Progressive
Color Space YUV
Codec Settings (Summary) CABAC / 1 Ref Frames
QF (like Gordian Knot) 0.31
Codec Settings (CABAC) Yes
Codec Settings(Reference
Frames) 1
Video Stream BitRate 2,780 Kbps
Video Stream BitRate

Number of Audio Channels 2
Audio Channel’s

----------------------------------------------------
CONFIGURATION B
Total Stream BitRate 2,437 Kbps
Video Stream #1
Codec (Human Name) AVC
Codec (FourCC) avc1
Codec Profile Baseline@L1.3
Frame Width 848 pixels
Frame Height 480 pixels
Frame Rate 29.970 fps
Display Aspect Ratio 16:9
Scan Type Progressive
Color Space YUV
Codec Settings (Summary) 1 Ref Frames
QF (like Gordian Knot) 0.189
Codec Settings (CABAC) No
Codec Settings
(Reference Frames) 1
Video Stream BitRate 2,307 Kbps
Video Stream BitRate
Mode VBR
Bit Depth 8 bits
Video Stream Size 95%
Video Stream Language English
Audio Stream #1
Codec AAC
Codec (FourCC) 40
Audio Stream BitRate 128 Kbps
Audio Stream BitRate
Mode VBR
Number of Audio Channels 2
Audio Channel’s
Positions Front: L R
Sampling Rate 48.0 KHz
Audio Stream Size 5%
Audio Stream Language English
---------------------------------------------------------
The mains differences are:
CONFIGURATION A
Codec Profile Main@L3.1
CABAC YES
Resolution: 720X416
Bitrate: 2.911 kbps
CONFIGURATION B
Codec Profile Baseline@L1.3
CABAC NO
Resolution: 848X480
Bitrate: 2.437 kbps
which one would you choose?
A has more bitrate and use CABAC but worst resolution, and B has better resolution but worst bitrate and NO CABAC
advices please?
Thanks a lot

I've not used your tuner/software, but is it likely the bitrate varies as necessary to maintain quality? Meaning you can't compare two configurations and assume one will always produce a higher bitrate than the other?
CABAC increases encoding efficiency. The x264 encoder uses it by default. I'd guess it's disabled in the second config due to the use of the Baseline profile rather than the Main profile.

I can't really be of any more help than that, other than to theorize config A uses a lower resolution than config B because it uses a higher profile and CABAC, which uses more processing power to encode. I'm really guessing though.... Does one look better than the other? -
I have been testing and with Config A there are no pixelations at all, with cofig B the quality is bettee because the resolution but if there is a scene very fast the image can show some pixelations so I dont know whats better
